Description

This autumn local charity SOS Africa and St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church, Shepton Mallet have joined forces to bring you a Somerset fundraising challenge with a difference.
On the 15th/16th and 22nd/23rd October we are inviting local individuals, schools, businesses and community groups to abseil from the top of the church tower (the height of 5 giraffes and a lion to be exact) to raise funds for a new education project in South Africa.
The oldest building in the town, the church has a vast history spanning back to Saxon times making it well in excess of 1000 years old. If it is a clear day (fingers crossed) participants will be able to enjoy a fantastic view across the town and surrounding areas.
Leading the way, the Church Rector Revd Jonathan Hunter Dunn and SOS Africa Director Matt Crowcombe will be first to abseil from the tower. To join them, all you have to do is pay of deposit of £10 and raise £50 as an individual or £300 as a team of 6.
To support local causes, we are also inviting participants to fundraise for their own charities and community groups; in this instance, provided that a minimum of £50 per person is raised for SOS Africa, the funds raised will be divided equally between SOS Africa and the chosen cause.
Furthermore, to support the local High Street we are introducing a fancy dress theme of “Most Outrageous Charity Shop Costume” but make sure you keep the tags on for proof.
And if all this isn’t motivation enough, each time an individual raises £50 over their £50 target or a group raises £50 over their £300 target, they will be entered into a draw to win two tickets to visit one of the charity’s projects in South Africa!
