Due to increased pupil intake for 2016/17, Sheiling School, Thornbury is seeking full time, enthusiastic and committed LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANTS to join their education team.
NVQ Lvl 3 or equivalent preferred.
Experience in SEN and dealing with challenging behaviour essential.
Salary £15,460 – £16,527 pa (depending on experience and qualifications)
Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 5pm, (40 hours per week)
The right candidate will be a committed team member, enthusiastic and motivated. The LSA will be involved in supporting the delivery of all aspects of the School’s curriculum, in line with the School’s curriculum policies – numeracy, literacy, communication skills, topic-based project work, life skills, physical education, drama, music, art, craft etc.
When not in the classroom setting, the LSA will provide one-to-one support for lunch or rest hour in a care house setting under the guidance of the House Parent/Deputy House Parent.
Under the guidance of the class teacher, the LSA will provide reliable and consistent support for the class. They will support the teacher by working with individual pupils or small groups, with primary responsibility for one pupil. The work may include aspects of personal care for the pupils, e.g. helping pupils with toileting and personal hygiene.
The main focus of this role is the building of positive and appropriate relationships with a pupil or pupils. This may mean dealing with challenging behaviour.

The Sheiling School in Thornbury, South Glos is a residential Camphill (Rudolf Steiner) School for children with learning difficulties aged 6 to 19 and is part of Camphill Communities Thornbury.
