The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) currently seeks a highly motivated person who is experienced in fundraising to take on the role of Development Director. This role has two primary responsibilities of Fundraising and Project Coordination.
Fundraising - This individual will develop and apply for new funding sources, while building and maintaining relationships with potential and current funders and donors. This includes collaborating with, cultivating, and leading GEN’s team of independent fundraisers.
Project Coordination - This person also interfaces between funded projects in GEN and the staff or regional partners undertaking them. This includes helping when necessary to coordinate logistics, provide support, collect reports, and to make sure that the project stays on course.

Reports to: Executive Director and Operations Director
Pay: 80 hours per month at £15 per hour = £1,200 per month
Starting Date: 1st September 2016
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works with Executive Director, Fundraising Coordinator, and Fundraising Team to raise funds for GEN.
- Research, networking, and due diligence on potential partners and funders.
- Find and develop funding opportunities in the UK, Europe, and beyond.
- Develop, write and submit funding applications to trusts, foundations, governments, competitions/contests, individual or organizational donors, and corporations.
- Develop fundraising programs within GEN, including creating a Legacy program, growing the Friends of GEN (small and large donors, in collaboration with Executive Director), and applying for Gift Aid.
- Elicit project proposals from GEN networks.
- Create a case for funding GEN, and provide feedback to Operations, Communications, and other Directors to improve that case online and throughout the GEN organization.
- Keep the Funded Projects page up to date, as part of making the case for funding.
- Coordinate with Communications Director to do Press Releases for each funded project.
- Select and win funding projects that secure core funding for GEN-International, support the GEN network, and/or help to realise GEN’s Vision, Mission, and Goals.
- Be available for phone calls from funders and meet up with donors when required.
- Work with GEN Finance Director and Executive Secretary to oversee reporting and financial administration regarding funding applications.
- Work with Project Managers, partners, and staff to support and implement strategic goals of funded projects, and to ensure that all reporting criteria are met.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- At least 3 years of experience in successful fundraising.
- At least 3 years of experience in project management or team management.
- Working knowledge of UK fundraising laws, restrictions, and opportunities.
Core Competencies:
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Further language competence is a highly appreciated bonus.
- Ability to effectively communicate, build positive rapport, collaborate with, and lead staff and external partners, funders, supporters, governments, and agencies.
- Understanding of and agreement to the vision, core values, and code of conduct of GEN.
- Excellent computer and internet proficiency (Email, Google Drive, MS Office, Skype, etc.) and ability to learn new internet tools.
- Ability to work in diverse cultural settings.
- Ability to work in an environment of emergence and complexity.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and remotely when necessary.
- Ability to be prepared and to maintain regular punctual attendance to meetings.
